Renew Expired Certification

Effective January 1, 2014 the following applies to ALL EMS Providers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Under section 1023.21 of the Pennsylvania Rules and Regulations an EMS provider who does not secure a new registration for their certification by completing the required continuing education credits, may secure a new registration by completing the following process:

  1. Contact your Regional EMS Council office to complete a registration packet.
  2. Must complete the clinical patient care and other core education requirements that would have been needed, to timely secure their registration.
  3. Successful completion of a cognitive (written) certification examination.  Additionally, if the registration lapse has been greater than 2 years the EMS Provider will must successfully pass a psychomotor (practical) skills certification examination.  There may be additional costs for the EMS Provider associated with the cognitive and psychomotor examinations.

This process applies to all EMS Certification Levels including:  Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, Advanced-Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Pre-Hospital Physician Extender, Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse, and Pre-Hospital Physician.

This process may take up to 30 days to complete once EMSI receives your completed packet.
